SR 65
SR 65 (PID DH6632) is a disk set by Caltrans in 1961. It’s located on the west side of Highway 45 in Colusa county, and is set in the concrete structure shown. It was observed as part of the Caltrans North Region project in 2004, and again in 2008 as part of the Sac Valley proejct.
When I first saw the bridge structure I was a bit puzzled about the mark’s history, because the concrete is so clean, its finish so smooth and edges so sharp that it looks new. I also didn’t understand why such an elaborate structure was built to run a farm road over a ditch.
After nosing around a bit I saw the “1913” and realized that the “farm road” was actually an old railroad alignment. The bridge is a beautiful structure, now relegated to light-duty use.
